Celebrities

I hate to chew over such a unpertinent topic but I believe I must voice my opinion.  Officially I am over news.  I am over US weekly, I am over People, I am over E-xtra, I am over any other fake news production.  All we talk about is how celebrities are failing at life.  Whether is be
Paris going to prison, Hasselhoff being a binge drinker, or A-Rod and his allegations of cheating.  I mean honestly the world has become so petty and absorbed with this “news” that is overshadows real issues.  The media distorts the news yes, but at least it could distort what really matters!  I think America and humanity in general has become so news hungry that we indulge ourselves with crap.  So I beg of you, put down your tabloid, turn off Good Day LA, and put on Hannity and Coomes or Mad Money.  Like G.K. says leave the slums and enjoy the feast.  All I ask is to be aware of this insolence plaguing the media.

Paradise Lost

This is a bookcover I made for my computer graphics class.  It is also an homage to Paradise Lost.  Left to right it is back spine cover.  Enjoy

My hopes…

I am home sick from school with a sinus infection.  I thought all I would do is play massive amounts of video games.  However I have been blogging since I got up.  I started a abortion question with Fitnessfortheoccasion.  Now I thought I knew it all.  Nandor gave me a very solid foundation.  However even though, not to brag, I believe I have perfectly represented Nandors argument and it isn’t sufficient.  Please I beg of all of you take every single opportunity you can to prepare yourselves for life.  Talk to people with differing views.  Granted you might have times of doubt because you cannot solve the answers.  But can you really truly go into the world believing something that has never stood the test of argument.  I am not saying go on an argue spree I am saying test yourselves now when you have the wonderful resources of our Bible department.  It is on going I have not been beat.  Sorry for this relatively mushy post however I have gotten so much out of taking this a step further.  God gave his best for you, give your best for him.

Devils Advocate?!?

Well today was great, scary, frustrating, tiring, and all together interesting.  However there was one thing that really hit home.  During English today the basic arguments started.  Someone says a very fluffy emotional comment about spirituality and I decide to counter it with some crazy atheist logic just for kicks and giggles.  Of course I believe in what they are saying but I love a good debate.  Well today was different.  I proposed a problem in the Privation of Evil Theory to argue with Mark.  However after what I thought was just a quick trip down atheism lane I started to see my argument was quite good.  If you’re in the class stick with me I have a point, eventually.  Well I continued to argue as usual.  However we left the class with me correct, and the Privation Theory of Evil totally null and void.  I then realized I had undermined Christian theology.  I started to get worried, I didn’t think I stumped the masters but I defiantly gave them a run for their money.  Well after about 3 hours of intense thinking I may have figured out my argument and the hole therein.   I will not go into the solution or the problem but I learned a valuable lesson today.  That to truly know what I believe and why I believe it I must fully understand the opposition and unravel my own argument and build it back up before I can truly say I believe it.

The un-funny truth about Mormonism

Growing up in a Christian school my entire life I have studied fundamentalist Christianity at least 5 hours a week for the last 12 years.  It dates back to the simple memorization of verses, and feltboard Jesus stories.  Then as I progressed in years I learned of Islam and other world religions.  They were taught as false and condemning to hell, hardly arguable.  However as I began to pop my bubble of Grace seclusion I met many people who seemed to be Christians.  They read the “Bible” the believed in “God” and “Jesus”.  However after a deep delve into sotieriology I realized the finer points of mankind and God.  After meeting two Mormon elders while pushing in carts at Vons I started to wonder.  These boys have devoted their lives to something so close to Christianity that most Christians would not be able to tell the difference.  However I wondered were they saved?  Did they believe the basic elements that I believe define a Christian?  I decided to set up a meeting with.  I was not going on the offensive.  They had spent years studying and 20 minutes of rhetoric would no convince them of anything important.  However if I could understand what they believed I could plan future attacks, and decide if they were even necessary.  When I met with them I asked the first basic question.  Do you believe in the divinity of Christ Jesus as the son of God, who was transfused with man, maintaining his Godness? (I said it more elegantly but I cannot recall)  To my surprise he claimed that Jesus was true God.  I was feeling good.  Nothing pleases me more than when someone is strait in understanding.  However I was in for a big surprise.  My next question was the Trinity.  Their answer almost knocked me down.  They said “one in purpose”.  Not homouisius, the same substance, but only same purpose.  They denied the triune God.  I asked further if they believed they were the same person.  Simply they claimed no, they work together for the salvation of man.  What does this make of Mormonism?  Polytheism?  A harsh conclusion?  They claimed the Divinity of Christ but not the Trinity.  I believed both are required for salvation.  This could very well be a misrepresentation of the Mormon faith, however this is merely an account of my experiences.

Sweet dreams are made of these… Who am I to disagree?

Today’s world is constantly scrutinized by mankind to explain everything.  Often this obsession to understand everything causes mankind to explain things that do not exist or are extrapolations far beyond logic.  This is the world of conspiracy theories.  However that mountain is far too tall and far to steep to be scaled in this setting.  However the stem of these theories are one simple statement, the owner of  certain knowledge and technology believes that it is better kept out of the hands of common man.  This view of Ideology or bliss is ignorance has been a hot topic since the dawn of modern communication.     This debate has shown its head in recent times with the release of the hit movie “The Da Vinci Code” and the recent war in Iraq.  As both Christians and functioning members of the American how do these issues affect us and what can be learned from them?  “The Da Vinci Code” tackles the Roman Catholic Church.  The outrageous claim made by Dan Brown is that Jesus Christ not only was marred to Mary Magdalene but that they bore a daughter and her decedents still live on in a sacred bloodline protected by a secret organization.  He claims that if the public knew this the Roman Catholic Church would be ruined and therefore they do all in their power to stop its revealing.  This self proclaimed fiction novel allows deep insights into the human flesh.  In this example the problem is easily solved.  Luckily we do not need to trust any one organization for theology.  God himself breathed into life the Holy Scriptures so that we ourselves can be tutored under him.  This is a call to return to scripture.  It is ludicrous to make conclusions without scripture.  The word of God himself is contained in a book, and to leave this untapped is plain foolishness.  God gave his best for us, why not give your best for Him.  However with the issue of Weapons of Mass Destruction and the governments disclosure or withholding of information there is no manual like the Bible.  However the transcendence of the Bible can lead to insights.  Romans 13 deals heavily with the obedience we must show to the government.  In short we are commanded to obey the government, a very simple answer.  Our democratic system makes it easy to make changes in the Government peacefully and legally.  What can we learn from this?  We are sinful.  We wish we knew what really happened at Area 51, we wish we knew what happened during the Cold War, however what would we do with this knowledge?  Humans are driven by one thing, self-sustenance.  Give man all this power and he will destroy himself and his fellow man.  The government is like a leash it keeps us from getting to far ahead of ourselves and getting into trouble.  In short we are sinful and must turn to the one constant in our lives, scripture, for knowledge and guidance.

No Mo PoMo

Hello,

My name is Josh Schwochert. I am 16 years old. I am leaving high school this year to attend college and become a functioning member of society. This is the time where I can make a difference. Well the fact is its everyone’s time to make a difference, and this blog is my outlet to change that. Our generation is, well, lackluster at best. Post Modernism and the customization generation have ruined the work ethic and high expectations of generations past, this is where I hope to make a difference. I love short and concise knowledge, the espresso of the information world. That’s why I hate post modernism. The fact is that we’ve only got one shot, and our parents will only govern this world for a few more years. It is our turn now.
