What matters..

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world– the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions–is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:15-17

As a Christian, sometimes I find my..self being preoccupied and interested in the things of the world. I get caught up with my dialy life and forget what is most important, doing God’s will. Media today seems to bombard us in every direction with many appealing offers. The key thing is to remain focused on what is important.

Yes, we are part of this world but do not belong to this world. Many times it is easy to forget that because we are so comfortable. We are comfortable with our houses, with our cars, with our lives here on earth. We are so comfortable that we fail to look past that comfort. The thing, we have to realize is that what God offers is better than anything that the world can offer. We are so easily satisfied. We look to things of the world to satisfy us foolishly knowing that they only bring temporay satisfaction. In verse 17, it says that those who do the will of God abide forever. Life here on earth is short, so we must not waste our time seeking things of this world. We must invest or time in energy into doing the will of God because that is what matters in the end.

  1. What you are saying really is true. It is hard to stay focused on God sometimes when the world seems to offer so much. But like you are saying, in the end though, those things really do not matter . The only way to get true satisfaction is through God, and we really have to work to keep our focus on Him.

  2. I struggle with the constantly. The television can be particularly distracting. I’ll plan to read some profitable book or do some worthy thing, but instead find myself watching reruns of a dumb reality show. I guess it is just a daily battle to keep our minds on higher things.
