We have all heard it a million times, underage drinking is bad, and we should not do it. It is common knowledge. However, more and more teenagers are drinking, and it is becoming a huge problem. A recent article that I was reading said, ” On any given day across the country, 5,400 kids under age 16 are taking their first drink, according to the latest research. ” After reading this it made me realize just how foolish many of our youth have become. Drinking may seem harmless, but it is in fact very dangerous. Many teenagers who do not know their boundries, and that can often lead to alcohol poisoning. Not only that, but when cocky teenagers think that they are able to drive after drinking, they risk killing themselves and other innocent people on the road. Each year many people are killed in drunk driving incidents, and most often drunk teenagers are the culprits. I also read that, ” The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration also says that a person who starts drinking before age 15 is five times more likely to develop alcohol-related problems later in life than someone who waits until age 21.” I believe that that fact is reason enough to avoid underage drinking. Problems such as alcoholism can tear families apart, and that is a good reason to wait until legal age to begin drinking.

But the most important reason of all not to drink underage, is because it is commanded by God to obey the laws that our goverment set forth. 1 Peter 2:13 says, “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men; Whether to the King, as the Supreme authority.” God gave our government dominion over us, and since our government has made it a law to wait until we reach the age of 21 to drink, and we should respect that law, which would be respecting God’s law as well.

  1. I agree completely. People just get sucked into doing the dumbest things these days. I used to work with somebody that would get super wasted and then drive himself home because he was confident in his driving abilities even while inebreiated. Stupid. Yet so many people get sucked into it. I think it’s because we live in such an escapist world that everyone just drowns their problems in pleasure rather than try to deal with them, whcih in tutn creates more problems. Anyways, you picked a good topic. Hats off to you.
